Bathroom Status

Ok as Matt pointed out, it’s been a while since I reported anything on the bathroom front. My масиlast post was back at the start of November and nothing much has happened since then, apart from many many gigs in the several bands I had got involved in, Christmas, an arrest and court appearance.
I’ll give [...]

Progress… REAL progress!

I finally decided I was spending too much time on things that shouldn’t be my priority. I have this thing about my word being my bond but I’m afraid that will have to be suspended until I learn not to promise stuff too freely. Tonight was jazz band but I managed to reason that actually [...]

Frustration and Creation

Yesterday I wanted to get two more walls done. I ordered the plasterboard on Tue and they promised delivery Wed. But I forgot to try to get a time of day. The result? I was bumming around in the house unable to go out and buy stuff until 2 when it finally arrived. Got a [...]

Rectified

Here’s the revised spout mount (much simpler than the holey version before) and painstakingly-crafted divertor mount.

Spout, fixed
Then I drywalled, but noticed that the divertor is too deep into the wall to be able to screw onto the threads.

Plus Drywall
So I took the drywall off again and simplified the divertor mount. Cor, if I’d realized this [...]

Preparation is EVERYTHING

Yesterday I got quite a bit less done on the house than I had hoped, but for good reason. The glib answer is “because you only got started at 5:30pm” but a slightly more charitable answer involves mentioning that I also shopped, cleaned, and bought the last of the plumbing bits, not to mention having to [...]

Goal Orientation

… has never been my strong suit. But there’s nothing like spending two CDs’ worth of music hammering in nails to give you time for reflection. When I’m DIYing, when I’m not fully focused on a complicated task, or thinking about girls (it’s OK, with their clothes on), then I’m getting a lot of time [...]

Nearly plumbed.

Despite being tired and fed up and despite making a bunch of mistakes, like cutting up a bit of scrap pipe then realising that it was a piece that had been painstaking bent and cut to size for a specific purpose, I now have the hot supply connected to the mixer / divertor. It was [...]

Tolerance

Well, last night I was too tired to work but after some din dins I headed upstairs to make some kind of contribution. I’d noticed that the new floor was sitting significantly lower than the old floor so I thought I’d take up the old floor and remove the obstructions that must be on the [...]

Night Off

I was aiming for a further 1/3 of the floor to be reinforced by 9:30 last night (when I have to stop cos the neighbor goes to bed) but I was also aware that I was badly in need of a night off Real Soon Now.
As it was I was still at work at 9pm [...]

Trouble Picking

Throughout, this has been the hardest part of the project: making aesthetic choices.
Since the subfloor is coming along nicely, and soon I’ll want to put things on top of the actual floor, I have a missing piece of the plan: to whit, the floor finish.
I initially rejected vinyl (lino) because I would like a high [...]
