this is a very interesting one, the ‘can you get done again for the same thing and if so, how frequently?
if you left your untaxed car on the road for 6 months should you get one fine for the single, unbroken offence, or perhaps one a day? but a day would be an arbitrary measurement of time for the nature of THAT offence.
if you were to drive your untaxed car on the road would that be a separate offence from the original 6 months? because, if it was, then every measurable increment of the progress of the moving car should be finable.
as i say, it’s a very interesting one.

Yeah, the reason I feel this is unfair is that back in November I paid the fine PLUS ARREARS. So I have paid the same as if it was taxed all the time, I have paid for the privilege of forgetting to renew by the deadline, so this is paying for a photograph, which I am not going to receive and I doubt would be of suitable quality for framing anyway.
Also, yes, does this mean at any time for the rest of my life they can turn up other photographs of that car being on the road and fine me another £1000?
It also smarts that their leter was dated 17th, arrived on the 27th (feb), and said payment must reach them by the 6th. In otherwords, I have less time to pay it than it took them to ask for it. And that’s ignoring the fact that it happened four months ago AND I’VE ALREADY PAID FINE AND ARREARS.

I loved the phrase that popped up over the link to your blog. It beat the swearfilter!
I hate laws that assume everyone’s a scumbag. This government is far too good at it.
It’s the scumbags that get the rest of us into trouble.
