Consider the following scenario:

You are on a cyclepath crossing a road junction.

A pedestrian route runs alongside and crosses the cyclepath.

The cyclepath approaches and crosses the busy road at a light-controlled crossing.

After the junction the cyclepath continues alongside the pedestrian route for about 75 metres, when it rejoins the road at a second crossing.

The light on the crossing is red and the button has not yet been pushed.

There is not time to cross the road ahead before the approaching car.

There are no pedestrians present.

What is the correct course of action?

Oh. I should mention that it’s first thing in the morning, and you’re in a Fiat Cinquecento which you’ve somehow managed to drive half way down the cyclepath before your subconscious thought to appraise you of the above facts.

OOPS.

Below you can see the junction from a different angle. Every morning I enter that junction at the bottom left and exit it at the top. Two or three times a week I enter that junction at the left on my bicycle and exit it at right. Mouseover for what I did in my car yesterday morning…

OOPS.

I just got home from tonight’s busy schedule of parties and found the Pee Cee on, bimbling away to itself. I remember I left it on because I was supposed to bid £30 on ebay for a radio for the spitfire. I’ve been looking for a suitable item for over a year and it finally came up on ebay this week.

I had forgotten. It went for less than £30. What a numpty I am.
