Watched “Sideways” last night, which was less wacky than the trailer suggested, but very funny and pathetic too (in the sense of “having lots of pathos”). I got to the cinema late, on account of having had a lot of work to do and having shown up to work not exactly early, and there on the screen was ME.
It was a sobering sight.
As the film went on, he turned out not quite to be me after all, but the opening scene almost had me looking around the room expecting to get knowing glances off various strangers in the audience.
Anyhow that’s not what I came here to post about. I just needed to place on record that I’ve got real work to do with a defined end for the first time in ages, and it’s great!
Rather than getting drawn in to the conversation at mongers’ site I thought I would share my own epic tale of adversity and personal endeavour.
For lent, I have given up my morning bath.
I used to be content with a shower in the mornings, but when the shower broke I started taking a bath, and the habit stuck.
This morning I discovered just HOW MUCH I NEED MY MORNING BATH. It’s my brain’s cue to boot up and sort the fragmented … er … fragments of thoughts, worries and ideas into at least enough of a semblance of order that I can function.
This morning I decided I would cycle in to work and shower there. Unfortunately I discovered that I am also unable to dress without first washing.
The upshot?
I sat, deadlocked, for about 45 minutes before having a shower and driving to work.
One step at a time.
I fired up the computer this morning to post a rant about Bush. It was going to go along the lines of:
World war 3 is here … only this time we are the bad guys … Blair’s attempts to get the right to detain INDEFINITELY and WITHOUT TRIAL anyone who the home secretary chooses to claim he has intelligence about … America’s flouting of international law … “nuclear weapons assuring peace” only working when both sides had ‘em… who can stand up to America now? NOBODY … I believe THIS is why Blair is supporting Bush: he’s smart enough to know standing up against him will only result in our being thrown out of the party and put at the bottom of a very long list … our leaders ASSURED us Iran was not “next on the list” … what is Iran accused of?
This planet doesn’t seem big enough for USA and any other country.
… but then I got a blog comment from a guy in Australia who’s tried my Comment Spam Deletion Page and loved it! So I instantly calmed down.
I am THAT shallow.
After that hiatus, thought I’d better blog even though I have nothing to blog about. Apart from to wonder whether Haiti got its name on account of early visitors taking more than one Hiatus there, then making a minor transposition error.
