It’s cheaper for 2 people to get Eurostar to lille and rent a car for a week than to take a car on Eurotunnel.
It’s cheaper to take two people and a car by speedferry (speedferries.com) than to go by Eurostar with bikes.
If you look up bicycles eurostar, you get this page, giving you an email address to ask. The reply says “please see attached document”, with a Word document attached. Why the hell isn’t that information on the website? Don’t make me email a human just to get a stock response…!
Oh, and the ’solution’ is that they put it in as excess baggage and it arrives at your destination within 24 hours - guaranteed! now, I and all the rest of my baggage will be there in a matter of 2 hours, so what use is that? May as well get the ferry and at least know where my bike is.
From Bro and Sarah for my birthday I got three straws and a video about vintage ford tractors. From my great mate Pete I got a video about vintage tractors. Are they trying to tell me something?
The rest of the birthday was great… sorry, the rest of the birthday was ALSO great. A good day at work Friday, a failed attempt to lucidly blog my theory on the similarity between truth and jam, then an evening dancing in Manchester wearing my just over-the-top-enough-to-even-raise-an-eyebrow-in-salsa-circles shirt and sunglasses. Kate had a barbecue on Saturday at the fabulous place where she rents a room. Sunday was… er well more barbecue really, then the Sunday Social in york, where I did the dog-with-a-ball routine again of being far too tired but being unable to stop dancing. Combine that with far too much playing of Unreal Tournament and I’ve arrived at Monday Morning with the house in as unfixed a state as it was before the weekend. Ho hum, good thing the salsa class is off tonight!
The new, dynamic steve was in work well before 9 this morning. I decided to get all proactive an that, and left work at 17:15 to get to the supermarket and get on with life. BIG mistake. Of course all junctions areclogged all ways. After turning round to go back to work and finding that route blocked, I tried an alternative and got about 1/2 a mile before stopping again at heslington where two roads were competing at the roundabout for the main street, whose recent ‘traffic calming’ means that traffic leaving the crowded junction has to wait for oncoming cars to pass. BRAINDEAD. So in order to avoid flipping out, I parked up at the first legal opportunity, wrote off the next hour, and have come to heslington for food. Where I have been served the wrong meal.
After asking for ketchup, then for vinegar, then for salt, I am now happily munching while the waitress tries to spell “fuck” on the wordsearch quiz machine by the bar…
Got back and am still not fed up. Well, not VERY fed up. But tonight York had a good go at making me fed up. My alarm clock broke on the way back from merkaland so I thought I’d pop into town on the way home and pick one up. Now had I tried this in santa barbara, it would have been a case of go home, eat, watch TV, drive to circuit city, browse, prod them all and choose one, and buy it before 9pm.
Here, it was a case of fight the traffic to a parking spot near Argos, walk through the cold rain to the front of the shop, and find I’m 10 minutes late to buy anything. I’m on a 10 minute waiting (free parking is generally 25-75 minutes in SB) so I can’t then wander into town to look for other places that may be open.
I believe York is worse than many places from the point of view of traffic and the brain-dead layout of the town, but unless you have a ‘home-maker’ in the family, the available time for getting things like this done is painfully slow. We need to sort this out.
