Back in march it was high time I sorted out my junk room. This is combination study, music studio, craft studio, junk store, toolshed, electronics lab, server room, library and cycle park and it enables me to live like a regular human being in the rest of the house. Anyway, back in march it was overdue for a sorting out. Then I bought the spitfire and it got silly in there. Then my back went. Then I got a new housemate who had a bike and some golf clubs.
For the last 6 months the room has basically been a black-hole where there was not even enough room to move things you didn’t want in order to reach the things you wanted. Last night my back felt good and I had my first clear midweek for a long time, so I started the job.
Given that it’s the second smallest room in the house (after the bathroom) I thought a good plan would be to pretty much empty it, give it a clean, then bring items back into it in an orderly manner. So I filled the lounge with junk from the junk room. But there was still no room to move.
So I filled the kitchen too. Then half my bedroom. Finally there was enough room to move items of furniture around. Unfortunately it’s the landlord’s furniture so I can’t throw it away and the room really is a heinous shape, with lots of nooks and crannies, a useless but imposing fireplace, and the presence of both the electricity and gas meters meaning most corners can’t be bunged up without considerable inconvenience.
Got to bed at about 1:30 with very little of my former life recognizable in the rest of the house, but a promising looking layout in the junk room and some very tidy network cables…
