Bought a second-hand palm IIIe with no stylus yesterday and am chuffed to bits with it. I’ve already filled it choc-full of ideas for web sites, Grand Plans for getting a house, requierments for enhancing the palm, and things that need fixing on my PC. I give it a fortnight till the novelty wears off and I never touch it again.
My #1 piece of Palm wisdom is that it is *not* ok to use any broken pen in place of a stylus - I made two noticeable gouges in the graffiti pad on mine before I worked out it was a burr on the old ballpoint I was using that was causing the damage. Everything still works but my palm is scarred for life! Or at least until I decide to erplace to touchpanel.
Dilbert is Bad, M’kay?
Don’t get me wrong I think dilbert is funny; scott adams is funny and has my respect BUT there is a Dark Side to dilbert. The wry observations may strike a chord and give the beleaguered masses of office employees a feeling of validation and of solidarity, but the strip reflects very real problems experienced by the worker and offers no solutions or workarounds to them. Of course it should not be obliged to do so, but the strip does have the effect of repeatedly drawing attention to these petty (and not so petty) frustrations in the workplace with the aggregate result of less job satisfaction for the workers and a less motivated and more resentful staff for the managers.
‘Course I’m not saying stay away from Dilbert, kids, but this is the reason why I am no longer an avid reader. If you won’t give up your dilbert but feel that you might need an antidote, try www.joelonsoftware.com
Gah.
My inner child and my cynical adult self have been undergoing ‘aggressive negotiations’ lately. If one gets its way then I’ll end up deliriously happy, and clearly insane in the eyes of most of the world, and if the other, then I will be regular, productive, and essentially dead. Negotiations continue…
